Description: For this assignment, we had to administer a survey to our colleagues to gather data regarding the use of technology. With this information, we then had to identify a technology initiative to design and implement for our school. We had to use the information from the survey to guide the intiative and then write a plan for how the initiative would work. We used a wikispace to compile and organize all of our information. We had to include an introduction, the results from the survey, and initiative details including: timeline, budget, resources needs, etc. We also had to research a topic related to our initiative and write a Literature Review. Finally, we had to develop a professional growth plan for how we would move forward.
Analysis: To begin this assignment, I created a survey using sruveymonkey.org and emailed it out to all of my colleagues. I reviewed the results and decided that the most beneficial technology initiative for Bunker Hill Elementary School at this time would be to create a space on the school's shared network for teachers to share and access interactive lesson plans. The survey outlined that many of the teachers used the smartboard in their classroom and wanted to implement more interactive lessons with their students, but they either didn't have the time to create the plans or didn't know where to begin. With this space, teachers will be able to use and modify lessons that other teachers have found or cretaed. In addition, we will offer additional professional development on creating interactive lessons so that more teachers can create and share interactive lessons. This initiative was practical to implement in that there was no immediate cost to the the district and no extra resources needed. I created and organized a space to save the lessons and will present the information at already scheduled staff meetings. Finally, I researched the benefits of teacher collaboration and how it can impact student achievement.
Reflection: As soon as I understood the guidelines for this assignment I created my survey and got moving. I had some ideas for my initiative, but wanted to be sure that met the needs of the survey. Once the survey results came in, I decided on my initiative and begin researching how it would work. I enjoyed working on this assignments for many different reasons. I liked that this assignment forced me to continually add information to and edit a wiki space, as a goal of mine is to create a wiki space for my class. I also liked that this assignment brought back some "skills" I learned through other technology classes that I hadn't had theopporunity to use in a while. For example, I was able to create a podcast and take screenshots, applying the knowledge I learned in other classes. As I worked through this assignment, I became more and more excited about the initiative. Being that this initiative will not cost our school or district anything, I am going to present it to my principal and hopefully move forward with the initiative this fall. Collboration and technology are both very common in education today, and this initiative is incorporating them to benefit our students. I can only hope it works as well as planned.
